The online retail platform eBay has shared the most expensive automotive-related items that had sold on their website during the first half of 2024.

No matter whether drivers are looking for a specific component or a fully-fledged used car, retail platforms offer a surprisingly wide variety of items, with some selling for good money.

According to the company, the most expensive car component sold on the site during the first six months of 2024 was a complete V10 engine for an Audi R8.

One of the last engines to feature 10 cylinders, the Audi power unit is capable of making 612bhp, which can propel the sleek R8 sports coupe from 0-62mph in just 3.4 seconds.

However, it’s near-legendary status has meant that well-kept replacement engines can be very expensive, with one example that had covered 38,598 miles selling for a staggering £16,567.

Another expensive automotive item sold on eBay between January and June 2024 was a set of seats for a Porsche 911 GT3.

One of the sportiest variants of the iconic 911, the GT3 has an emphasis on being particularly light, with the sporty bucket seats being made from carbon fibre.

However, owners that want to make their own car a touch lighter need some deep pockets, with the set of seats fetching £13,086 and another set for the Cayman GT4 reaching £11,962.

Finally, as the first generation of electric vehicles grow older, one retailer got a particularly good price for a Tesla Model S battery pack. Currently the company’s longest-running model, the Model S is available with a wide range of battery packs, with the largest capable of 405 miles per charge.

Whilst Telsa Model S owners can get a brand new replacement battery for around £15,000, a used high-voltage battery pack retailed on the site for £8,606.

Interestingly, one Tesla enthusiast also used the retail platform to buy the private number plate ‘EL0N X’, which makes reference the company boss Elon Musk and the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, that he owns.
