Joss Stone’s quiet life in idyllic countryside village where homes fetch £560k

Joss Stone, born Joscelyn Eve Stoker, is a singer, songwriter and actress who has won several accolades throughout her career including two Brit Awards and one Grammy Award.

She is best known for her singles ‘Right to Be Wrong’, ‘Spoiled’ and her cover of Sugar Billy’s 1974 song ‘Super Duper Love (Are You Diggin’ on Me)’.

Away from the stage and screen, Stone grew up and lived in Ashill, a small village near Cullompton in Devon but despite being a Devonshire girl through and through, she was actually born in Dover, Kent.

Dover is a major ferry port and is also home to the famous White Cliffs of Dover. The town itself has a magnificent medieval castle which dates back to the 11th century and a vibrant town centre filled with shops, restaurants and bars.

The area is very popular with hikers thanks to its impressive cliffs and rugged beaches.

Elsewhere, visitors can visit the Samphire Hoe country park which has been described as a “beautiful, serene sanctuary” by one Tripadvisor user.

Stone spent her teenage years in the village of Ashill in the Devonshire countryside.

The small village is quaint with a church, village hall and a pub. The local pub, the Ashill Inn, was built in 1835 and has an impressive 4.5 out of five stars on Tripadvisor.

The nearby market town of Cullompton is full of charm and history with a 15th-century church and a 17th-century home known as The Walronds.

The beautiful town is located within the Culm Valley and is surrounded by some of Devon’s most spectacular scenery.

Joss, who relocated to Nashville, Tennessee in 2022, put her Devonshire mansion up for rent for an eye-watering £1,325 a week, according to The Sun.

The five-bedroom property is truly unique with a beautiful open-plan kitchen with a red aga, exposed beams and a large outdoor patio area.

Stone reportedly bought the property after her parents split up. The home also has an open fire, a luxurious roll-top bath and a cosy living room.

Despite living an incredible life in the US with her partner Cody DaLuz, Stone announced last year she was planning to move back to Devon in time for her children to go to school.

She previously told The Sunday Times: “We’ll move home to Devon in time for Violet to go to school.

“I want my kids to have the kind of upbringing I did — riding horses, climbing trees and being near my family. I hope Cody likes it over there.”

Homes in Ashill come with an eye-watering price tag with properties in the village having an overall average price of £562,500 over the last year, according to Rightmove.

The majority of sales in Ashill during the last year were detached properties, selling for an average price of £641,667. Terraced properties sold for an average of £325,000.

Overall, sold prices in Ashill over the last year were 33 percent down on the previous year and two percent down on the 2018 peak of £573,750.
