Donald Trump uses ‘racist slur’ as Kamala Harris takes the stage | US | News

Donald Trump has been closely following the final night of the Democratic National Convention, and his ‘live Truthing’ on social media has already sparked controversy.

The former president has missed many poignant moments at the DNC this week, including Tim Walz’s 17-year-old son breaking down in tears and Michelle Obama delivering a scathing critique of Trump as the Democrats shift right on key policies. However, he is certainly tuned in for Thursday night’s main event, with Kamala Harris taking centre stage.

Trump has been providing a “live play by play’ on Truth Social – and his first target was Massachusetts Democrat Sen. Elizabeth Warren. He wrote: “Pocahontas is now speaking at the DNC. She used her fake Indian heritage to scam the system. Her mother told her she had ‘high cheekbones,’ and therefore she was Indian, who would use this hoax on applications everywhere. It worked until she got caught. 10024th Indian, remember?”

The ex-president has a long-standing feud with Warren, and this isn’t the first time he’s referred to her as ‘Pocahontas’. The 78-year-old has repeatedly mocked Warren over her claims of Native American ancestry, with many arguing that his nickname for her is a racial slur.

During her teaching career in the 80s and 90s, Warren informed administrators at the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard Law Schools that she had partial Native American heritage and was listed as a Native American faculty member. However, she’s been accused of utilising her heritage to further her career, a fact that Trump has frequently pointed out.

Trump previously proposed that he would donate a million dollars to a charity of choice if Warren were to take a test validating her lineage. In 2018, Warren proceeded to take a DNA test which demonstrated “strong evidence” of certain Native American ancestry.

“While the vast majority of the individual’s ancestry is European, the results strongly support the existence of an unadmixed Native American ancestor in the individual’s pedigree, likely in the range of 6-10 generations ago,” the analysis read.

Earlier today, Trump faced embarrassment after he incorrectly claimed during a live interview on Fox News that Kamala Harris had previously met with Vladimir Putin.

Moments after Trump hung up the phone following an interview with Fox & Friends, co-host Brian Kilmeade moved quickly to set the record straight about Harris.

It is the second time Trump has falsely claimed Harris met up with Putin days before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as he made a similar comment at a rally in North Carolina on Wednesday.

Trump claimed: “Biden sent, I call her Comrade Kamala, sent comrade Kamala to see Putin in Russia three days before the attack. She went, she said, she gave her case, he attacked three days later.’

Setting the record straight, Kilmeade said seconds after the Republican 2024 nominee hung up: “Just as a quick clarification, we don’t have confirmation that the Vice President went to Russia to meet with Vladimir Putin.
