Quentin Tarantino unveils the movie he refuses to watch for ‘devastating’ reason | Films | Entertainment

Speaking with Bill Maher on his Club Random podcast, Tarantino said: “I don’t watch all the animated movies and stuff, but I’m a big fan of the Toy Story trilogy. In the case of Toy Story, the third one is just magnificent. It’s one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. And if you’ve seen the other two, it’s just devastating.”

In Toy Story 3, the toys have a moment where they accept their fate, believing they’re about to be incinerated, before being saved. But the real tear-jerker is when Andy’s childhood comes full circle and he gifts Buzz, Woody and the gang to a little girl in a heartfelt goodbye before heading off to college.

Given it was a billion dollar success, Disney green-lit Toy Story 4, which many film fans felt was a cynical cash grab given how perfect the end of the Toy Story trilogy was – something Tarantino feels very strongly about.

Tarantino added: “But the thing is, then three years later or something they did a fourth, and I have no desire to see it. You literally ended the story as perfectly as you could, so no, I don’t care if it’s good. I’m done.”

If that wasn’t bad enough for the director, 2019’s Toy Story 4 also surpassed $1 billion at the global box office, making even more money than its predecessor.

And then amid Disney’s more recent box office disappointments since, CEO Bob Iger has announced guaranteed billion dollar sequel hits Frozen 3, Frozen 4 and yes, you guessed it, Toy Story 5. The latter is set for release on June 19, 2026, and follow the toys competing with modern technology.
