Argos dishes out new Freeview and Sky TV rival at a surprising low price

The all-new Freely platform launched earlier this year with the promise of beaming live and on-demand telly into homes without needing a dish or aerial stuck to the chimney. This latest streaming service comes built into TVs and offers an experience a bit like the broadband-connect Sky Glass television whilst remaining totally free to watch, just like Freeview.

When it first arrived back in May there was a very limited range of tellies that were compatible with Freely but that’s slowly changing.

Hisense, Bush and Panasonic have all launched Freely-powered screens in recent months and now Toshiba is joining the party as well.

The tech firm’s new UV2F series all come with this service built in which means you simply plug it into the mains, connect it to your broadband and get access to a swathe of free-to-view channels.

What is Freely? UK’s new free rival to Sky TV explained

Live telly and on-demand content can all be viewed, plus you get recommendations of things to watch. You can even pause the action if someone knocks on the front door.

Toshiba says that all of its latest models include Dolby Atmos audio, upscaling to make content look pin-sharp and Dolby Vision which helps boost the visuals on the screen.

Along with Freely, there’s also access to other apps such as Disney+, Netflix and Prime Video so you won’t need any other devices to stream your favourite boxsets.

Sizes start from 43 inches with retailers including Argos now stocking these Freely tellies.

Speaking about the new screens, Bart Kuijten, Commercial Director at Toshiba TV comments, “We know most people today are mixing live viewing with streaming, and that’s really where the UV2F range stands apart. It offers an excellent viewing experience, with 4K HDR display, Toshiba TV’s TRU Picture Engine, and Dolby Atomos and Onkyo sound, at a great value price point.

“At the same time, bringing Freely to the UV2F range means we’re able to offer incredible streaming content and a customisable viewing experience that combines the nation’s favourite live TV with on-demand and catch-up services – all alongside the streaming apps you’d expect from Disney+, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and more.”
