Princess Diana’s brother Earl Spencer posts poignant tribute | Royal | News

Princess Diana‘s brother has posted a poignant tribute to his sister who died on this day 27 years ago.

Charles, Earl Spencer, 60, shared a photo of newspaper cuttings from Diana’s early life in a post on Instagram on Saturday (August 31).

The image showed a pile of old photos and one clipping headlined: “Lord and Lady Althorp’s third daughter christened”.

It was reported alongside a photo of an eight-week-old Diana and her parents, then Viscount and Viscountess Althorp.

Diana, Princess of Wales, died in hospital in the early hours of August 31, 1997, after being injured in a car accident in a road tunnel in Paris.

Her partner, Dodi Fayed, and the driver of the Mercedes-Benz W140, Henri Paul, were pronounced dead at the scene. The couple’s bodyguard, Trevor Rees-Jones, survived but suffered serious injuries.

One of the photos shown in Earl Spencer’s touching post shows Diana looking back at the camera as she pushes a toy horse across a lawn.

Another shows the then future Princess of Wales being held by her mother, Frances Shand Kydd, not long after her birth on July 1, 1961.

Earl Spencer’s Instagram post wasn’t accompanied by a comment, but it has been liked more than 13,000 times on the picture-sharing platform and sparked an outpouring of emotion from royal fans.

One Instagram user commented: “She is and always will be England’s true Queen”.

Another wrote: “27 years and feels like yesterday. Princess Diana will be forever young. Forever beautiful. Gone way too soon”.

That user went on to describe Diana as an icon whose legacy would live forever.

A third Insta user posted in response to the photo: “Always, always and forever loved. So sadly missed by so many, many people around the world”.

While a fourth noted: “Who would’ve thought that baby would go on to be the most loved woman in the world. We miss you so much Princess Diana”.

Other Instagram users wished Diana’s family well. One wrote: “I can’t imagine the pain today. So many of our hearts are with you”.

Another wrote: “A lovely lady, gone too soon. I’ll never forget that night, how shocked I was that she was gone. Thinking of you and your family today, and especially H&M (Prince Harry and Meghan Markle) who are having to deal with the same treatment that was meted out to your sister. I wish them safety and justice. Love to you all”.
