King Charles’s ‘faith’ and Queen Camilla ‘his rock’ pull monarch through difficult year | Royal | News

King Charles has today, September 8, reached the second anniversary of his accession to the throne and the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

While it has been a rather turbulent year for the Royal Family, with two cancer diagnoses and a continued “Sussex problem” across the pond, King Charles, 75, has soldiered on to keep his rather “slimmed down” monarchy strong.

According to a source, the monarch’s health is finally heading in an “extremely positive” direction and he’s said to be coming to terms with a life as King.

The source adds that the sovereign “misses his mummy terribly” and is keen to mark her passing with a trip to Crathie Kirk on the Balmoral estate for private reflection and prayers. No other formal remembrance plans are in place for the day – as per convention.

“It’s been a tough two years,” said the source. “But His Majesty is finally through the woods and can see a way forward.

“His health is improving and all the signs are extremely positive for a strong and healthy future.

“He misses his mummy terribly, so it’s important for him to mark the day she passed with some quiet reflection and prayers in church.

“Charles’s faith remains strong and it is what has really helped guide him through the past two years, especially the last nine months.”

King Charles endured a difficult second year as sovereign with both him and the Princess of Wales, 42, undergoing treatment for undisclosed types of cancer.

Despite the setbacks, both His Majesty and Princess Kate are determined to not be beaten by the disease and have made public appearances while undergoing gruelling chemotherapy.

Queen Camilla, 77, gave an insight into the King’s treatment this week when she opened a new cancer centre in Bath, revealing he was “doing very well”.

King Charles will crank up a gear yet again next month as he will be joined by the Queen for an important tour of Australia and Samoa – their first major overseas trip this year.

The schedule for the official tour is said to have been scaled down as to not include any back to back meetings and consideration given to the time difference, but Charles’s team has still managed to pack out his diary and he will be “pretty busy”.

Queen Camilla has been described as the monarch’s “rock” this year as she has stepped up to represent the Royal Family solo on a number of occasions.

Her Majesty returned to work this week as she threw herself into a number of royal engagements while the King remained in Scotland.

On Tuesday, Camilla visited Bath to open a new cancer centre. The Queen then headed to Wiltshire to open the new headquarters of Stonegate Farmers, a new state-of-the-art facility where free-range and organic eggs are packed.

The Queen returned to royal duties on Thursday when she made her first visit to the English National Ballet since becoming patron earlier this year.

Later that day, Camilla stepped out of her royal shoes and into her parenting pumps as she headed to the launch of her son Tom Parker-Bowles’ new book.

The Queen attended her final engagement of the week on Friday when she paid a visit to RAF Leeming to meet service personnel and their families to learn about the welfare support they are offered.

Finally, Her Majesty made her way back up to Scotland to join King Charles at the Braemar Gamesbefore joining the monarch today to mark the late Queen’s death in private.
