Netflix drops first look at Prince Harry’s new docu-series | Royal | News

Fresh from his recent trip to Colombia, Prince Harry’s latest project has finally seen some movement, with Netflix confirming that his upcoming documentary series POLO will be hitting our screens in just three months time.

On September 9, the same day that his sister-in-law Kate confirmed she had completed her chemotherapy treatment, streaming giant Netflix announced that the Duke of Sussex’s brand new series focusing on his beloved equestrian sport of polo finally had a release date and fans won’t have too long to wait!

“POLO is a new documentary series that follows elite global players and offers an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at the fast-paced world of the sport,” Netflix said in a statement shared to X. “From Archewell Productions and Boardwalk Pictures. Premiering this December.”

Alongside the update, Netflix also released four still photos including a picture of three polo players on their horses, and two athletes carrying mallets as they chased after the ball.

Prince Harry, 39 has been a huge fan of polo for several years and has played the sport religiously for decades, including at several charity matches in aid of causes close to his heart.

Keen to share his love of the sport with the world, it emerged in April earlier this year that he had struck a deal with Netflix to produce a documentary series lifting the lid on the mysterious sport.

In a statement released at the time, the series claimed I would “provide viewers unprecedented access to the world of professional polo,” and was shot primarily at the US Open Polo Championship in Florida.

“Known primarily for its aesthetic and social scene, the series will pull the curtain back on the grit and passion of the sport, capturing players and all it takes to compete at the highest level,” the statement said.

The news first emerged in Deadline, on April 11, when news of Meghan Markle’s upcoming cookery show was also revealed to fans. Just two days after the announcement, the Duke of Sussex was seen with a camera crew at the National Polo Centre in Wellington, Florida, where production was clearly already well underway.

Both the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are set to serve as executive producers on the polo project, with Miloš Balać (Welcome to Wrexham) signed on as showrunner.

Ever since the announcement, excitement has been building for the upcoming project with Harry’s close friend and Polo pro Nacho Figueras also having shared his enthusiasm for the project.

Speaking to PEOPLE back in April he told fans: “I have always wanted to introduce polo to a wider audience,” said Figueras, who plays polo around the world.”

“Prince Harry and I have talked about polo for years. The production company is incredible, and Netflix has a huge platform to reach the biggest hearts in the world. I am happy to be involved and think this is a great opportunity for the sport,” he added.
