Nigella Lawson brands two-ingredient meal ‘food of the gods’ which she

Celebrity chef Nigella Lawson has lauded one two-ingredient meal as the ‘food of the gods’ which she likes to cook for herself at home when she is eating alone.

The kitchen goddess, 64, said that eggs with homemade chips is one of her go to recipes when she is cooking for one at home.

She told the Times: “These days, dinner for one at Casa Lawson ranges from anchovies on toast to pancetta and lentils, and eggs with homemade chips, aka ‘the food of the gods.

“I am a great believer in deep frying. It’s nightmarish if you’re doing it for huge numbers but doing it for one takes the fear out of it.

“I relish the evenings I get to eat by myself at home. Sure, I enjoy hosting lavish meals for big groups and in the office I am a feeder.

“But eating for one at home means the only person you have to satisfy is yourself. You get to choose the meal, the location (I am guilty of sofa eating too) and above all the portion size.”

Nigella has two grown up kids with the late journalist John Diamond while she divorced second husband, art collector Charles Saatchi, in 2013.

Despite her reputation as the queen of the British kitchen, the chef admits she doesn’t actually like cooking for large numbers of people.

She added: “I think that what people often feel is that cooking for one is a huge effort. But I think what often feels like an effort when you are nervous hosting doesn’t feel like a big effort when you’re alone because the fear is taken out. There is no sense of embarrassment.

“I find it quite difficult to taste my own food properly when I am eating with lots of people. You hone in too much on what you don’t like about it.

“I now feel so used to cooking for myself. I can go up to a very big number but I am not used to cooking for four as much.”

Nigella also admitted that the best part of eating out in restaurants is you can “order a bit of everything from the menu” – which you can’t do if you’re eating for one at home.

It comes after Nigella admitted to one unusual bedroom habit – but it may have some unhealthy consequences. She also told The Times she admitted that she is and that she will “eat absolutely anything in bed, except something that needs a knife and fork. It has to be either fingers or a spoon.”

Sleep expert Dr Deborah Lee said that while she understsnds the temptation of enjoying some of your favourite snacks in bed, there are some very real risks with doing so.

She said: “Pizza boxes, leftover takeaway chicken, and the like can attract flies, ants, and even cockroaches.

“Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a harmful bacteria often found on cockroaches and their droppings, can even end up on your pyjamas or clothing. Imagine transferring this onto your bed!”
