How to kill gravel weeds: Method works instantly with no vinegar

One of the most frequent errors in maintaining front gardens is neglecting to address weeds promptly, according to gardening expert Nilufer Danis.

Nilufer has stressed the importance of swift action to prevent these unwanted plants from taking over, especially in gravel driveways where they can be particularly tricky to manage.

While some gardeners might resort to white vinegar, which takes about 24 hours to effectively kill weeds, Nilufer recommends a quicker solution: boiling water.

To begin, identify the specific weeds present, such as clover, thistle, or horsetail, which commonly appear in driveways and walkways.

Nilufer, who shares advice on her website, suggests pouring boiling water directly onto the weeds, which will eliminate them instantly due to the heat disrupting their plant cells.

This method is not only effective for gravel but also works well on weeds found in paving and cracks in concrete.

The gardening pro said: “The best method for instantly killing weeds on gravel driveways is boiling water. Just pour a pot of boiling hot water directly over the weed – this will instantly kill it.

“The boiling water can also be effective at killing weeds in other areas of the garden, including paving and between cracks in concrete.”

For optimal results, it’s essential to pour the boiling water as close to the weeds as possible to maintain its temperature.

For particularly stubborn weeds, consider digging them out or using an organic alternative like a mixture of lemon juice and salt, although this method will take longer to show results.

But Nilufer warned: “No matter which method you use, make sure to stay safe while dealing with weeds.

“Don’t pour boiling water near any electrical cables or wires, and always wear gloves when working in your garden.”

Once you’ve effectively removed the weeds, take steps to prevent them from returning, such as replenishing gravel in worn areas.
