Fitbit has been going through the ringer a bit in the past couple of years. Not only were its latest Sense 2 and Versa 4 watches hamstrung compared to previous versions, the firm also recently let slip that it probably won’t ever make another Fitbit-branded smartwatch again. Parent company Google has also stripped Fitbit of fan-favourite features such as leadership boards with friends.
After all the gloom, it’s good to see Google has started to pay a little more attention to Fitbit once again. Earlier this month Fitbit updated its app so that every customer could get access to their daily readiness score, a feature that was once locked behind the still-annoying Fitbit Premium paywall.
Thankfully, Fitbit seems to be leaning into the generous spirit and is rolling out some welcome updates to its Android and iPhone apps that should make it easier for you to see and understand all your health and fitness data.
As spotted by 9to5Google, in keeping with Google giving the Fitbit app a lick of paint to keep the aesthetic in line with Google’s own branding, the Stress management score, mood, and mindfulness sections of the app have been updated.
Version 4.26.1 of the Fitbit app for Android sees this design come in, and now the app looks a lot more uniform. Fitbit’s app has always been a bit messy, with some sections getting more love than others over the years, leaving everything feeling unorganised.
Google is seeing to that by adding day and week tabs to several stat sections to make it easier to spot health trends. This seems particularly useful for the stress management section, where you can identify the times your Fitbit spotted you may have been stressed, and try to work out what the triggers were.
Lest we forget, Google owns Fitbit and owners of the Pixel Watch smartwatches must use the Fitbit app to see all of their data, so these changes will benefit all owners of Pixel Watch and Fitbit devices.
Though the months and years ahead for Fitbit owners are a little uncertain – especially in terms of how long current devices will be supported for – at least right now the app is improving and not being left to wither away.
