If you’re finding it difficult to grow your hair, a doctor has revealed a simple change to your hair washing routine that could make all the difference.
Hair loss and lack of growth can be incredibly frustrating, especially with the overwhelming number of products on the market claiming to help – but where should one begin?
One doctor suggests that adding a teaspoon of coffee to your shampoo could significantly boost hair growth. Dr Janine Bowring explained why on TikTok.
The most prevalent type of hair loss in both men and women is androgenetic alopecia, also known as AGA. “In men, it’s called male pattern baldness, and in women, it’s female pattern hair loss,” she clarified.
She noted that it “usually starts with the temple area” in men, and “over time that hairline recedes to form that characteristic ‘M’ shape”.
The hair also “thins on top of the head”, and in women, the hair loss typically occurs “at the top of the head” where the hair gradually becomes “more and more sparse”.
“So, caffeine has been proven to help with that hair growth.” she stated, flashing a study on the screen to support her claims.
“My tip here is to add just a teaspoon of ground coffee into your shampoo when you’re shampooing your hair, and then wash it out,” she advised.
Dr Bowring added that “it will make the hair a little bit darker”, so it would work “best for dark hair”. You can anticipate paying approximately £1 for a basic jar of instant coffee from your local supermarket, although branded products might be a bit more expensive.
In the comments section, one individual queried: “Do you put it inside the shampoo bottle or on your hand with the shampoo to wash your hair?” To which Dr Bowring responded: “You can put it in your hand with the shampoo.”
Another person shared: “I put rosemary essential oil in my shampoo, and my hair is coming back. I’ll have to try the coffee too. Thank you!”
