A 10-hour rain warning is in place for parts of the UK today.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning, lasting from 6am to 6pm today (October 1).

Between 15mm and 40mm of rain is forecast for Grantham, Coningsby, Leicester, Northampton, Peterborough, Cambridge, Milton Keynes, Luton and Thetford.

The national forecaster said there will be further rain, which is locally heavy, that will develop over today leading to potential disruption.

Bus and train services may be delayed and car journeys may be slowed down due to spray and flooding on roads. There is also likely to be flooding of a few homes and businesses.

The Environment Agency has issued 64 flood warnings and 157 flood alerts across England.

Alerts are spread across the midlands and the south coast while warnings are focused over Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Leicestershire, South Yorkshire, Greater Manchester and Liverpool.

Temperatures will be near normal but rather cold in the east with lows of between 9C and 13C.

Tonight:

Low cloudy and patchy rain and drizzle across central and eastern England, slowly clearing southeastwards. Clear spells across Scotland and Northern Ireland with isolated frost.

Wednesday:

Any rain and low cloud in the southeast will slowly lift and turn showery into the afternoon. Drier with sunny spells elsewhere with temperatures around the seasonal average.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Dry with plenty of sunny spells on Thursday and Friday and feeling warn in light winds. Rain returning from the west into the weekend with stronger winds.
