As autumn sets in, seek a splash of mood-enhancing colour with winter’s new hottest hue – rich burgundy. We have Gucci’s creative director Sabato de Sarno to thank for the shade, which featured prominently in his debut SS24 collection, inspired by the elevator interior of the Savoy hotel in London where founder Guccio Gucci once worked as a porter. De Sarno used it liberally across both men’s and womenswear, on bags, high-shine leather goods and separates. There are many variations of the shade in winter collections, from deep oxblood to rich merlot, even tipping into dark aubergine. The burgundy bag is a great place to start with this trend.
