King Charles’ shock reaction to common kitchen item he had never seen | Royal | News

Even royalty aren’t immune to kitchen calamities, it seems. In a revelation that is strikingly human, King Charles was reportedly baffled by the sight of cling film, leading to quite the startled reaction.

Tom Bower, the author with an eye for Royal quirks who penned ‘Rebel Prince’ about Prince Philip, narrated an incident where the now-King “shrieked” and “trembled” when he encountered the everyday item.

Amidst adapting to modern meal routines, King Charles, at 75, has finally embraced having lunch traditionally a skipped meal in his schedule. The Mail on Sunday reports the monarch’s newfound, albeit modest, indulgence is half an avocado, a dish favoured by millennials including Meghan Markle.

A source confided to the Mail that although initially reluctant, Charles decided to have a small repast to keep himself going during the day, explaining, “With some reluctance, he now has something to eat at lunchtime a snack, really. He now eats half an avocado to sustain him through the day. It’s important, particularly if you have got an illness.”

Bower’s biography highlighted Prince Philip’s concerns over Charles’s alienation from everyday life, with the cling film episode standing as a prime example, reports the Mirror.

Wife Camilla Parker Bowles proved to be the knight in shining armour as she soothed her husband’s surprise, as vividly detailed in the book: “He walked into the dining room and shrieked. Fearing the worst, Camilla dashed in after him. ‘What’s this? ‘ asked her husband, pointing at the food.”

To which Camilla calmly responded, “‘It’s cling film, darling,” The segment, originally featured in the Guardian, has been met with silence from Clarence House regarding the book’s publication.

Speculation is rife over whether Prince Charles actually recoiled at the sight of cling film, as well as the veracity of other anecdotes from ‘Rebel Prince’. Nonetheless, the biography remains an enthralling narrative of royal life.

In a recent revelation, Queen Camilla’s son disclosed that King Charles III is fervently anti-waste.

Food critic and writer Tom Parker Bowles shared insights into his stepfather’s eco-friendly practices, highlighting that Charles is adamant about recycling and repurposing leftovers.

At 49, Tom explained: “There is no waste, everything is recycled, everything is used from the table. If anything is leftover from the dinner, that will be made into something else or appear the next day. Nothing’s allowed to be thrown out.”

Following Buckingham Palace’s February announcement of Charles’ cancer diagnosis, Parker Bowles reassured the public, stating his “doctor says the treatment is going well.”

Tom Bower’s book also sheds light on Charles’ sartorial habits, suggesting he changes outfits up to four times daily, and details his extensive 120-person entourage.

The former Prince of Wales adheres to a meticulous daily routine, including a 5pm sandwich break as divulged by his former press secretary, before resuming work until midnight.
