Whether your five o’clock shadow could be used as a scouring brush, or you’re having a first proud shave, Gillette’s Fusion5 razor is one of the best choices on the market for getting a clean shave. And you don’t have to break the bank to get a starter pack, either.
Amazon is offering a limited-time deal on a razor with 10 blade refills, taking the price from £27.99 down to £20.99. Each refill features five anti-friction blades that offer a close, long-lasting shave, a lubricating strip to prep your skin and minimise razor burn, and a singular precision blade on the rear which is ideal for sculpting your edges.
Gillette estimates you’ll get 20 shaves from each refill, which tots up to just 10p per shave. It’s got everything you might want from a razor – including a comfortable handle you can easily wield, as well as a precision trimmer on the back for peak accuracy.
From 4,987 reviews, the Fusion5’s average Amazon rating stands at a whopping 4.7 stars. One five-star review says it’s an upgrade on their years of electric razor use: “After using an electric razor for many years I thought I would try a wet shave again. I have got to say I was delighted with the smoothest shave ever with this razor!”
Another notes that the Fusion5 steals a march on some of its closest competition: “Much closer shave than the Wilkinson equivalent and the handle locks into the cartridge much easier. Great shave.” This user is hardly alone, with another stating: “These little beauties though? Worlds apart. If you’re torn between the two big names in razors in the UK, spend that little bit extra, it is definitely worth it!”
As with all things skincare-related, some users have fared less well with the lubricating strip and five blades. “It’s irritating the skin,” says one negative review, while another said they “found the razor a bit uncomfortable to hold because on the rigid grooves on the shaft”.
That said, the vast majority of users have been very satisfied with their experience of the Fusion5, and at this cut price it’s easy to recommend giving it a try.
Alternatives on the market include the Wilkinson Sword Hydro 5, which similarly has five blades and a lubricating strip for close and smooth shaving, at £27.49 for a pack of eight. For £8.75, you might opt for a Harry’s Truman razor, available in three styles and boasting superior control, although it should be noted that this is a single-blade pack.
