Tories just one point behind Labour in nightmare poll for Keir Starmer | Politics | News

The Tories are just one point behind Labour months after their landslide election win, new polling shows.

The survey by More in Common puts Sir Keir Starmer’s party on 29 percent, with the Conservatives on 28 percent.

Labour is down one point and the Tories are up two from the last poll carried out around two weeks ago.

Nigel Farage’s Reform UK, which won five seats at the last election, is third with 19 percent.

The poll of 2,023 British adults carried out last weekend puts the Lib Dems on 11 percent, the Greens on seven percent and the SNP on two percent.

It is the lowest Labour lead the company has recorded since starting its voting intention surveys last year.

The polling comes as the Prime Minister has faced a nightmare start to his premiership which is less than 100 days in.

The Government has faced an intense backlash over plans to strip millions of pensioners of winter fuel payments.

The Unite union held a rally outside Parliament yesterday in fury at the decision to restrict the allowance to only those on pension credit.

At the same time, Sir Keir and other senior Labour figures have been at the centre of a freebies row.

The PM accepted tens of thousands of pounds worth of gifts and donations from Labour peer and donor Lord Alli including clothing and spectacles.

In the latest chaos to engulf No 10, Sir Keir’s chief of staff Sue Gray resigned over the weekend amid a power struggle.
