Windows will be ‘streak-free’ in 5 minutes if cleaned with 1 kitchen item – not vinegar

Window cleaning can be a frustrating chore, but you can get it done quickly as long as you have the right products for the job.

Laura Mountford, a cleaning expert who goes by @lauracleanaholic online, has shared that windows are more likely to be dirty and cloudy in autumn since there is more moisture in the air.

She said: “Windows become foggy due to condensation, laundry drying, humidity and the change in temperature.

“It is therefore really important to ensure that you have good ventilation and air circulation during the winter months to avoid a build-up of mould and mildew in your home.”

However, it is incredibly easy to get windows sparkling clean without leaving streaks as  Laura has told The Express that all you need is washing up liquid.

Laura said: “The quickest hack for cleaning your windows is to use a mop and hot soapy water. Clean the windows and frames then use a window [vacuum] to remove all the soapy water residue.”

Washing up liquid has been designed to cut through dirt, oil and grease which means it will quickly cut through most glass stains to be easy to wipe away.

You only need to mix a tiny amount of washing-up liquid with water to make it into a smooth soapy cleaning solution that will lift dirt without leaving any streaks.

However, if you prefer you can also use white vinegar instead of washing up liquid as it dries very quickly so it will also not leave any residue on windows.

Laura added: “Using this method is quick, easy and cost-effective. It is also really satisfying cleaning your windows this way. You will be able to clean one window in less than five minutes.”

How to clean windows properly in only five minutes

To begin, brush the windows and frames in order to remove any cobwebs and dust.

Next, fill up a bucket with hot water and a little squirt of washing-up liquid. Use a mop and the cleaning solution to quickly clean the glass.

Use a window vacuum to remove all the soapy water residue if you are able to, and then use a microfibre cloth to polish the glass.

Laura said: “The key to leaving windows with a streak-free shine is using a high-quality microfibre cloth to give them a final polish after cleaning.

“I have tried and tested many over the years but the Spontex Window and Glass cloth is my favourite because it is an XL size, really thick and fantastic quality – it honestly leaves your windows and glass shining.”

Once the windows have been polished, Laura uses a product called Flash Spray Wipe Done to make the windows shine and uses a Spontex window cloth so there is not any streaks.

This quick and easy method will make cleaning windows an almost effortless and fuss-free chore that you can do in no time at all.

Laura said: “Using this method will leave your windows sparkling and allow as much light as possible into your home during the darker autumn months.”
