The iconic, and three-time Academy award-winning filmmaker, Steven Spielberg is probably Hollywood’s most famous modern director.
But of the all-time greats helmed by other filmmakers, there are 20 in no particular order that most inspire him – and the latest is only a decade old.
Dumbo – Walt Disney (1941)
Starting off the list is this family-friendly Disney classic about a circus elephant with huge ears who can fly. In fact, Spielberg paid homage to this movie in his wartime comedy, 1941. When the character General Stilwell goes to the cinema, the film on screen is none other than Dumbo. The General is having such a joyous time watching the feature, that he does not flinch when told that there are riots going on just outside. He does however ask the soldier informing him of this to move out of the way so he can keep enjoying the movie.
