How the US border became a toxic issue for voters – podcast | News

“Polling has consistently indicated throughout this election season that immigration is one of the top issues, obviously for Republicans, because it’s been so deeply politicised on the right for many, many years now – but also for undecided voters and some Democrats as well.”

The Guardian’s US southern bureau chief Oliver Laughland visits Tucson in Arizona, near the border with Mexico, to see why the issue of immigration is such a key issue in the presidential election. He meets Trump supporters and Democrat activists to discuss the US border.

Oliver tells Michael Safi about Donald Trump’s proposed policy of mass deportation, and explains why Kamala Harris has responded by shifting further to the right on the border issue.
