When Saving Private Ryan lost out on the 1999 Oscar for Best Picture, this was widely regarded as one of the biggest shocks and upsets in award show history.

And now the movie has narrowly missed out again as fans say it’s not the greatest Tom Hanks film of all time. But, with so many Hanks films in the Hollywood Hall of Fame, the film voted No. 1 by fans is still an all-time classic.

10. Apollo 13 (1995)

Directed by Ron Howard, the docudrama based on the Apollo 13 lunar mission, stars Bill Paxton, Kevin Bacon, and Tom Hanks. The movie re-tells the true story of the three astronauts on this mission, who’s survival is thrown into doubt after an oxygen tank explosion. Apollo 13 won two Oscars for Best Sound and Best Film Editing and was also nominated for seven other Academy Awards including Best Picture.

9. Captain Phillips (2013)

Paul Greengrass directs the action thriller, based on a true story. As the captain of a US containership, Richard Phillips (Hanks), must protect his crew when the ship is hijacked by Somali pirates. It was nominated for six Oscars, including Best Motion Picture, and nine BAFTAS, winning Barkhad Abdi the award for Best Supporting Actor.

7. Toy Story 2 (1999)

Directed by trio John Lasseter, Ash Brannon, Lee Unkrich, the animated adventure comedy continues the story of Woody (Hanks), Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), and the rest of Andy’s toys. Randy Newman’s score for the movie is also beloved; the song When She Loved Me was nominated for the Best Music, Original Song Oscar in 2000.

6. Catch Me If You Can (2002)

Steven Spielberg’s crime biography stars Leonardo DiCaprio as a teenage con artist, Frank Abagnale, Jr, who becomes the biggest bank robber in the United States. Hanks plays an FBI Agent who has made it his life’s mission to track down the teen, but his mission proves more difficult than expected. The comedy classic also stars Christopher Walken, Martin Sheen, and Amy Adams. The film received nods in awards season, winning Walken the BAFTA and SAG awards for Best Actor in a Supporting Role.
