Dad’s moving update on ‘little warrior’ son hospitalised after M6 crash | UK | News

The father of a little boy who is fighting for his life after a crash that killed his mum has issued a touching update.

Arran Martin, 7, was rescued from the crash which took place on the M6 earlier this month.

The crash was caused by a car travelling down the wrong side of the motorway, reports the Mirror.

Arran’s dad called his son a “little warrior” and said Arran is slowly recovering.

On 15 October, the collision took place in Cumbria and Arran was taken to hospital in a coma.

His mother, Jade McEnroe, 33, partner Jaroslaw Rossa, 42, and his sons Filip, 15 and Dominic, seven, were killed in the head-on crash between a Skoda and a Toyota just past Tebay services.

The crash also claimed the life of Richard Woods, 40, from Cambridgeshire, who was driving the Skoda the wrong way down the northbound carriageway.

Arran Martin was the sole survivor of the crash, he was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle where his dad Andy waited by his bedside “day and night” as medics fought to save his life.

His devoted father told the Mirror that his son was getting better every day.

He said support from strangers has been “truly uplifting”.

Andy said: “The accident on the M6 has turned my life and the lives of all Arran’s family upside down. It is heartbreaking that Arran has lost his beloved mother and step-family.

“All who know Arran know he is a little warrior and he is making progress every day.

“The medical care he is receiving in the hospital is exceptional, and the support from friends, family, and even strangers has been truly uplifting.

“This is an incredibly difficult time for everyone who knows and loves Arran, but we are all so proud of his resilience and the strides he is making.”

The family was on their way back from Legoland when their car was involved in the crash.

Friends set up a GoFundMe page to support Arran’s recovery which has raised over £9000.

Family friend Kieren McGregor wrote how Arran “loves to scare people with his Chucky doll and horror stories but at the same time he likes to bring along Woody and Buzz to his cold water dips just in case any of the adults get into some trouble in the water and he can help save the day with them.”

He said the money would help create a “comfortable, healing space for Arran by renovating his room and any modifications to ensure his comfort and wellbeing when he returns home.”

Another GoFundMe page was set up to help the grieving families of those who died pay funeral expenses and other costs which has so far raised over £21,000, far surpassing its £5,000 target.

Family friend Shelly Keith, who set up the page, confessed she was ‘overwhelmed by the generosity’ of people.

In a statement released through Cumbria Police, the mother of boys Filip and Dominic who died in the crash said she was “heartbroken” by the loss and her life “will never be the same again”

Mum Kamilla said: “Filip was very intelligent, sensitive and full of love. We will never forget his smile, open arms, and the words “tuli, tuli” (hugs, hugs).

“He was fascinated by computer games but also incredibly good at chess. He loved chemistry and dreamed of studying at the University of Glasgow.

“Dominic was always smiling, very resolute and sociable. He was extremely caring, always thinking of others first, and the first to help if someone was in trouble.

“Always surrounded by a group of friends of all ages. He loved dinosaurs and Pokémon, but most of all he loved penguins and dreamed of adopting one.

“Our lives will never be the same again.”

In another statement, Jade’s parents said: “Our beloved daughter Jade, you are so loved, and we will miss you every day.

“You are a very much-loved mummy to Arran.”

Last week it emerged officers in Cumbria received ‘multiple reports’ his Skoda had been travelling the wrong way on the northbound carriageway minutes before the accident.

Emergency services were on route when further calls were received saying it had been involved in a head-on collision with a Toyota.

Cumbria Police have confirmed that investigations into the incident are continuing and have issued an appeal for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
