Halloween houses in the UK: 8 of the spookiest decorations

Thursday, October 31, is Halloween – a Celtic tradition celebrating the transition into winter. Spooky season was once known as the festival of Samhain where the souls of the deceased were believed to visit their relatives.

People who wanted to protect themselves from evil spirits of the night would wear costumes to scare them away; while the reasoning behind wearing costumes might be lost today, lots of people still indulge in the Halloween custom.

There will be ghouls, monsters and fictional characters parading the streets tonight – especially as youngsters go trick-or-treating for a handful of sweets and chocolate.

In preparation for knocking visitors, many households across the UK have decorated the inside and outside of their homes for Halloween.

While some streets are more demure, others have pulled out all the stops in the ongoing battle of the best Halloween decor of the year.
