Eggs are one of the best ingredients to include in your breakfast, whether they be boiled, scrambled, fried or poached.
Poached eggs are typically the most impressive so can be tricky to make yourself at home.
Instead of cooking them in a pan of boiling water on the hob, and perhaps with a dash of vinegar, there is another way to make them.
According to cookbook author and NHS doctor Dr Chintal, poached eggs can take as little as 45 seconds to cook if you use the microwave.
Taking to her TikTok account @drchintalskitchen, Chintal shared a video that was titled: “Easy microwave egg.”
She said: “The secret to making the perfect poached egg is in the microwave. Yes, you can make the perfect poached egging in under a minute in the microwave.”
In the caption, Chintal said: “My favourite hacker ever! Poached eggs in the microwave in just 45 seconds. So much quicker and easier than on the hob and just as good.”
For this method, start by pouring about 150ml of freshly boiled water into a microwave-safe bowl. You just need enough water to cover the egg.
Next, crack in your egg and pierce the yolk and white once with a sharp knife – Chintal noted that this is “essential to prevent it [the egg] exploding in the microwave”.
After, cover the egg with a plate and microwave on high for 45 seconds. Chintal said that she has an 850W microwave so those with a microwave of a different wattage may need to adjust the time.
Once ready, it is recommended to leave the egg covered for a further minute before serving.
