Caitlin Clark narrowly missed a group of fans with a wayward shot off the tee at a Pro-Am golf event. The basketball star got off to a bad start at the LPGA tournament as the crowd were forced to duck under ball.
Clark is playing at The Annika this week alongside women’s golf superstars Nelly Korda and 10-time major champion Annika Sorestam. The 22-year-old is a huge golf plan and recently admitted that she would spend the basketball off-season on the course.
But it was not a positive start for the Indiana Fever ace as she nearly wiped out several fans off the tee. Her powerful drive careered low and way off to the left.
Spectators positioned only 10 yards away were forced to duck out the way. A video shared on social media platform X shows that there were audible gasps from the crowd. Fortunately, with people realising that nobody had been hit, there was soon laughter.
However, it could have been a serious incident had the ball connected with one of the spectators.
Rather ironically, Clark had admitted in the build-up to the tournament that her ultimate goal was to not hit a spectator.
“I’ve tried to practice as much as I can. I’m just the average golfer. I’m going to hit some good, I’m going to hit some bad. It is what it is,” the WNBA icon said.
“Just going to try not to hit anyone standing outside of the ropes. But it’ll be fun. I’m excited for it. I think I’m just excited honestly. I’m not a professional golfer, so I think just having fun.
“Getting to be with two of the best probably ever to play this game, it’s super fun and special for me. I’m a fan of both of them and a fan of all the women on this Tour. I think it’s absolutely incredible. It’s special for myself.”
