The classic lasagne is a very popular recipe and can be altered to your preferred taste, but it’s vital to get the causes right. The culinary pros over at BBC Good Food have shared the “easiest ever” lasagne recipe that promises to be as scrumptious as it looks.
According to them, you can rustle this pasta dish up in a mere 15 minutes, with just another 25 to 30 minutes needed for the cooking time.
They’ve described it as a dish kids will love to help assemble and everyone will love due to the creme fraiche sauce and gooey mozzarella.
Drawing from the traditional Italian ragu, the filling features beef mince alongside bacon which offers a subtle smokiness and ups the richness factor.
What sets this recipe apart is the lush combination of mozzarella and parmesan (although you’re good to go with just parmesan if that’s what you have).
Ingredients
A dash of olive oil
Two strips of smokey streaky bacon
One onion, diced fine
One stick of celery, neatly chopped
One mid-sized carrot, shredded
Two cloves of garlic, finely minced
500g of ground beef
A dollop of tomato puree
Two 400g tins of chopped tomatoes
A spoonful of clear honey
500g fresh egg lasagne noodles
400ml of creme fraiche
One 125g ball of mozzarella, torn roughly
50g of grated parmesan
A generous bunch of basil leaves, ripped
Method
Start by adding the bacon to your pan and give it just a few minutes to sizzle until it begins to catch a lovely golden hue.
Next, toss in the onion, celery, and carrot, and let them sweat over a medium flame for about five minutes, making sure you give them a stir now and then until they’re nicely softened.
Next, add some of the sauce to your baking dish with two sheets of lasagne over it and let them overlap to get a snug fit before going in with more sauce and another layer of that pasta.
Keep up this layering job with two more rounds of sauce and pasta, capping it off with a final sheet of pasta on top.
And it’s not just looking good, but sounding great as well, bagging itself a top-notch five-star rating on the website, with rave reviews in the comments.
Foodies have been labelling it as “delicious” and “fantastic”, with one particularly chuffed diner crowning it the “best” lasagne recipe they’ve stumbled upon in a long time.
Brook H87 commented: “I made this lasagne for a family of four – children of six and two. It’s a delicious recipe with enough left to freeze for another day. Everybody loved it.”
Jess Miree said: “I absolutely love this recipe. I’ve only ever made it by swapping out the creme fraiche for the BBC Good Food white sauce, and then I add cheese to the sauce at the end of cooking. Fits perfectly in a square Pyrex dish, goes down a treat every time!”
Caroline Hunter wrote: “I used Parmesan and cheddar cheese instead. It was fantastic with the carrots and celery addition to the meat sauce.”
