If you love all things iPhone, then there could be a very big year ahead. Rumours are rife that the US technology giant will release some much-anticipated call makers over the next few months that will not only make things cheaper to own but also less bulky in your pocket. The first major update could come as soon as March with some experts predicting that Apple will release a new version of its popular iPhone SE.
This device has long offered a less expensive way of owning an Apple smartphone but it hasn’t had a refresh since 2022.
With the current SE now almost three years old, something new must surely be on the horizon. Some reports suggest that this rebooted budget device will get a full makeover, including a new design, much faster processor and better rear camera.
If launched, the 2025 SE is thought to finally ditch the Touch ID fingerprint scanner and switch to an all-screen appearance with built-in Face ID technology instead. That will make it look much more like the current flagship iPhone 16 models.
If the SE does arrive, it will be interesting to see if Apple makes it compatible with the latest Apple Intelligence upgrade, which is only currently available on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 models.
It’s an exciting rumour, especially as this device could arrive in stores for under £470—around £300 cheaper than the new iPhone 16.
If that wasn’t enough to tickle your tech tastebuds, then more big news could also be on the horizon. It’s almost certain that Apple will release its next-generation iPhone 17 range in September and along with standard and Pro models we might also get to see a new device called the iPhone 17 Air.
As the name suggests, this gadget could be slimmer and lighter than anything Apple has released before.
In fact, some are speculating that the Air may measure in at just 5mm thick – that’s around 2mm thinner than the current iPhone 16 range.
Slimming things down could involve some compromises, such as a smaller battery and less powerful speakers, but if you hate lugging around a full-fat device, this could be one to watch out for.
Finally, there have also been some rumours that Apple is finally thinking about launching a foldable iPhone.
Rivals such as Samsung, Google, Honor and Motorola have long had bendable devices available to buy and it’s unlikely that Apple will want to fall too far behind.
Although a foldable iPhone could be under development, most think it won’t arrive until 2026.
There are certainly plenty of whispers that big things are coming to Apple’s phones, so watch this space if you love all things iPhone.
