Another major Android phone will launch this week to rival the Galaxy

If the excitement of the OnePlus 13’s launch already this month wasn’t enough for you, it looks as though we are in for another major Android smartphone unveiling this week. According to its website, Chinese phone maker Honor is set to put its Magic 7 Pro flagship device on sale this Wednesday 15 January – and you can already claim £300 off.

Going to Honor’s UK website, you’re greeted with a splash page that shows the back of the upcoming Honor Magic 7 Pro along with the tagline “ AI Simply Smarter. That’s Magic”. The banner also reads “Available from 15th January 2025 at 10am (GMT)”.

It’s unclear if Honor is planning a flashy launch event for the phone or whether it’ll simply turn up for sale online. The Magic 7 Pro was first shown off in person by Honor on stage at the Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit back in October, which all but confirmed the phone would run the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset.

The phone even went on sale in China in early November, as is often the case with Honor phones. That’s why the company doesn’t mind teasing images of the phone and sharing its name on Honor’s UK website – the phone is already out in other countries.

But what we don’t know is how much the phone will cost. This could play an important role in whether it will compete with the excellent OnePlus 13 or the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which is all but certain to be announced on 22 January at Samsung’s next Unpacked event.

2024’s Honor Magic 6 Pro sold for £1,099, making it more expensive than the £899 OnePlus 13 and £999 iPhone 16 Pro but less than the £1,249 Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. We hope Honor can get the price down a little this year.

Because the Magic 7 Pro is out in China, we already know the phone’s specs. Along with the Snapdragon 8 Elite, the phone has at least 256GB storage and 12GB RAM, a 6.8-inch OLED screen, 200MP main camera with a 50MP 3x optical zoom and 50MP ultra-wide backing it up, plus a 50MP selfie camera. It runs Android 15 with Honor’s MagicOS and comes, in China at least, in four different colours including a marble-finish grey.

It’s possible Honor has changed specs for the global version of the handset that will be coming to the UK but we’ll have to wait and see. In China, the phone sells from ¥6199, which is about £700 – but we fully expect the Magic 7 Pro to sell for about £1,000, if not more.

Express.co.uk recently put the durable Honor Magic 7 Lite through its paces, dropping it onto hard floors, scratching the screen and putting it in the freezer.
