Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have donated to a teen charity in Los Angeles amid their joint efforts to support those affected by the latest wildfires that have been spreading destruction in the area, it has emerged.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been spotted in LA this week visiting an evacuation centre and food bank in Pasadena, while Meghan was also seen volunteering at the teen charity’s warehouse.
The Altadena Teen Girls Fire Recovery is an organisation set up by Avery Colvert, 14, from Pasadena, to gather beauty and other personal supplies for young girls affected by the fires, according to the Los Angeles Times.
And it has now emerged that the couple also made a secret donation to the charity through their Archewell Foundation.
Avery’s charity took to Instagram to thank Harry and Meghan, saying: “A special thanks to The Archewell Foundation for your support!”
The couple’s visit to LA sparked backlash by some people, led by Hollywood actress Justine Bateman, who labelled the couple “disaster tourists” and accused them of a “repulsive photo-op”.
Meanwhile, according to People, the duchess arrived at the charity’s warehouse on Monday carrying clothes and new beauty products, alongside lunch for other volunteers.
She also engaged with families as they visited and helped girls with their shopping.
In a video shared by the charity, Meghan could be seen in all black, speaking to a girl and carrying big bags in her arms.
The video was captioned: “And thank you to everyone who showed up on Monday, which was such a special day! We love you!”
In another post, a representative of the charity wrote in the comments section about Meghan’s appearance: “Even just meeting her is life-changing! Having her support is unreal.”
Last week, Harry and Meghan released a statement urging people to “open their homes” to those evacuated and “check in” on any of their “disabled or elderly neighbours”.
The statement also included a list of fire service charities, animal groups, and other initiatives to support those affected.
It is understood that the couple have donated supplies to those affected, including clothing, children’s items and other essentials.
They are also believed to have invited into their home friends and loved ones who had been forced to evacuate.
