A royal expert believes Prince Harry can finally “leave the Megxit drama behind” after stepping away from the limelight in Meghan Markle’s new Netflix series.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down as senior royals in early 2020 before relocating to Montecito, California, in a move branded by many as Megxit.
Meghan’s upcoming new cooking series With Love, Meghan focuses mainly on cooking whilst providing glimpses into the Duchess’ lifestyle and friendships, with a number of celebrity guests set to appear on the show.
This is set to include US actress Mindy Kaling and Meghan’s former Suits co-star Abigail Spencer.
Notably, her husband only makes one short appearance in the trailer where the couple are spotted smiling and embracing each other.
Harry’s backseat approach in the series appears to be the latest example of the couple “going their separate ways” when it comes to their professional ventures, something one royal expert believes is the “best move” for the Duke of Sussex.
According to Edward Coram James, CEO at Go Up, the couple’s “joint brand has taken hit after hit in recent years” and believes Harry should “carve out more independence from Meghan”.
He said: “Harry not being very involved in Meghan’s show is for the best right now.
“Their joint brand has taken hit after hit in recent years, and whether With Love, Meghan ends up being a big success or not, it’s a solid chance for Meghan to show she can thrive on her own.
“As for Harry, I think his best move is to carve out more independence from Meghan in both his public and professional life.
“He’s the only one who can truly shape his career and legacy at this point. By focusing on the work he’s passionate about – veterans, conservation, and mental health – he could leave all the Megxit tabloid drama behind.”
Earlier this week the Duchess of Sussex has decided to delay the launch of her new series, in light of the devastating wildfires that are ravaging Los Angeles, California.
A statement issued by the Duchess of Sussex on Sunday, three days before the series was scheduled to debut, read: “I’m thankful to my partners at Netflix for supporting me in delaying the launch, as we focus on the needs of those impacted by the wildfires in my home state of California.”
