Mike previously told Car Dealer Magazine: “Don’t forget, cars have things that come out of them, spare wheels, tools, cigarette lighters. 

“Make sure that you open the boot, lift up the carpet, make sure it’s got a spare wheel, make sure it’s got the tools, make sure it’s got a cigarette lighter. 

“All these things easily disappear at auction houses and if you buy one without a spare wheel, then you’ve bought a car with no spare wheel.

“You might be spending £1,000 buying a replacement spare wheel so check it’s there.”

Motoring experts and breakdown specialists at the RAC have also stressed spare wheels and accessories are vital checks for second-hand vehicle owners. 

They admitted it was just as important as checking for dents and scratches, your damage and electrical worries. 

They said: “Should the car come with a spare wheel? If so, is it there, and in good condition?

“Is there a jack for lifting the car if you get a puncture, and an adapter for any locking wheel nuts fitted to the vehicle?”

The AA said motorists should never make assumptions that items come included without seeing it for themselves.

The AA added: “Just because there’s a full-size spare wheel in your boot right now, don’t assume the next car you buy will have one too. 

“When purchasing any new vehicle, you should always take a look at what’s in the boot. Car makers are under no legal obligation to provide you with a full-size spare or, in fact, anything to deal with a puncture. So, don’t let yourself get caught out.”
