Traffic is currently being diverted away from the section of closed motorway, as police continue to work to clear the incident.

Here is the diversion detaisl from National Highways:

Diversion Route – follow route marked with a solid square symbol on road signs

– Exit the M6 at J21

– At the roundabout at the end of the slip road take the second exit on to the B5210 Woolston Grange Avenue

– Follow the B5210 Woolston Grange Avenue over the next four roundabouts

– At the fifth roundabout (Olympic Park) with the A574 take the third exit on to the A574 Birchwood Way (signed towards M62 Leigh, Birchwood, A574)

– Follow the A574 Birchwood Way to the M62 J11 Birchwood Interchange

– From the Birchwood Interchange (J11 M62) roundabout take the first exit on to the M62 westbound (towards Liverpool)

– Follow the M62 westbound to J10 and keep left to access the link road to the M6 and once on the link keep right to re-join the M6 northbound
