If you’re looking to make your home nicer without doing any massive renovations, an interior designer has shared her top three tips on what not to do in order to make your home more stylish.
Designing a whole house or flat can be hard, and expensive. To help, designer and architect Dara Huang shared her biggest tips on what not to do when decorating your home.
“Three things I would never do as a designer,” she introduced the video before diving in to her list.
1. Don’t leave your walls empty
Good design is all in the details, and that includes your home.
Dara urges people to decorate all walls in your house with something in order to not make them boring and plain. Whether it’s art, a mirror, shelves, or dado rails, adding something to each wall in your house will make it stand out.
2. Don’t leave clutter out
“Number two, never leave clutter exposed.” Dara said.
While clutter can make a any home look cosy and lived in, there’s a very thin line until it makes everything look messy and unorganised. But instead of getting rid of your things, Dara shared her easy solution.
“Get baskets, and more baskets,” she said, showing off two different kinds of baskets in the living room and bathroom.
3. Don’t have just one lamp in a room
While having a nice big light in every room is convenient for dark and gloomy days, they can also ruin the mood in any room.
To prevent this, Dara said to get smaller lights to scatter around the rooms instead, such as wall lights, standing lamps, ambient lights for shelves, and table lamps.
But this doesn’t mean to get rid of your pendant lamps enterily, but instead make sure it matches the rest of your home.
“And make sure your pendant lamp is decorative,” she said.
Despite Dara’s useful tips, people took to the comments to share their thoughts, with some criticising the designer.
“Thank God she’s not my designer,” one person said, with another person agreeing: “Same specially about not leaving walls empty.”
However others praised her for her simple yet effective tips. One person commented: “These sounds simple but they make so much difference.”
“I super agree with the clutter part, I think even non-OCD people feels stressful seeing random stuff sitting around,” another user wrote.
