Remove the added fuss of deciding what to wear on miserable dark mornings and instead opt for a chic, one-stop look that requires minimal effort. The new crop of knitted dresses does just that and, like a favourite snuggly jumper, they are not only comfortable but warm, too.
There’s a plentiful supply on the high street, available in autumnal hues from forest green and rich brown to merlot and burgundy, all in a wide selection of styles, from sleek to cosy. Hush’s Tilly merino wool midi in grey has a tie detail to give it a shaped silhouette (4, below), while Reiss’s ivory and black contrasting hem and side stripes creates the illusion of a layered design (1).
Elevate the look with kitten heel boots or metallic Mary Janes. Playful prints, such as leopard, lend themselves to drinks after work. Next’s mini style (£37) looks great with flat pumps, and Zara’s navy mini style with gold button detail has a vintage look. Simple charm bracelets, layered gold chains and wide belts add great styling touches, or add statement earrings for a less-ismore touch of glamour. Look out for design details, a cable knit or intarsia pattern, or Fair Isle motif worn with chunky kneehigh flat boots, or a sleeveless knitted dress layered over a heat-tech rollneck on chilly days, or a T-shirt in a contrasting colour can lift your look.
For a more casual look try Next’s bold striped dress (3), reminiscent of a rugby jersey, add a white shirt underneath with a pair of Nike Air Force 1s for a fresh preppy look. Alternatively, chunky tractor sole boots are a great casual styling for a classic black dress, like Chinti & Parker’s roll neck option (£150).
