The breathtaking African island compared to the Maldives with sunshine all year round | World | News

Being close to the equator and outside the cyclone belt, it also has a stable and warm climate, making it a great destination for visitors at any time.

Despite being in the middle of nowhere, Alphonse Island is accessible via a one-hour flight from Mahé, which operates on select days.

Visitors can reach Mahé from several international cities, including London, Paris, Dubai and Johannesburg. This connectivity makes the island an attractive option for travelers looking for an exclusive holiday without the long-haul travel times required for other tropical destinations.

Alphonse Island is known for its untouched beauty and is part of an atoll that also includes St. François and Bijoutier, two uninhabited islands that are important wildlife sanctuaries.

The surrounding waters are home to incredible marine life, including sea turtles, manta rays, and various species of tropical fish.

Importantly, conservation efforts are in place to protect these natural habitats, and visitors are encouraged to engage in eco-friendly activities.

Tourism on Alphonse Island is centered around its single resort, which offers private beach bungalows and villas.

The accommodations are designed to blend into the natural surroundings, providing guests with a peaceful and exclusive experience.

The resort includes a restaurant, spa, swimming pool, and a range of outdoor activities, including snorkeling, diving, and deep-sea fishing. Meals often feature fresh seafood, with chefs preparing dishes using locally sourced ingredients.

For those who enjoy outdoor adventures, the island also has plenty to offer. Snorkeling and scuba diving in the surrounding coral reefs provide the chance to see stunning marine life up close.

Fishing is also a big attraction, with Alphonse being a popular destination for catch-and-release fly fishing.

Visitors can also explore the island by bike, take guided nature walks, or join conservation programs to learn more about the efforts to protect the environment.

However, the island is not a budget-friendly destination. A stay in one of the resort’s beach bungalows starts at around $1,175 per night per adult. However, for those looking for a luxury escape in a remote setting, many say it is worth the price.

Visitors to Alphonse Island have compared it to the Maldives, with some saying it is even better. One traveler wrote on TripAdvisor: “I would choose this over the Maldives. It’s absolutely stunning.”

Another added: “I’ve been to the Maldives, and this is equally as beautiful. Can’t recommend enough.”
