A man and woman have been arrested after a baby was found dead today in a property in Greater Manchester.

The newborn, who is believed to have been just five weeks old, was found in Nelson Way, Chadderton.

Police were called to the address at about 12.56pm after concerns were raised about the welfare of a baby

A baby girl, believed to have been just five weeks old was found at the property but was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called at around 12.56pm today (09/02/2025) to Nelson Way, Chadderton to a report concerning the welfare of a baby.

“Emergency services attended and despite the best efforts of paramedics, she sadly died. A man and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of child neglect. Enquiries are ongoing.”

Officers remained stationed at the property throughout the afternoon following the incident. Investigations into the death of the baby girl are ongoing.
