Donald Trump reportedly made an early exit from Super Bowl LIX as the Kansas City Chiefs faced a surprising defeat. The 78-year-old had become the first sitting president to attend the NFL’s season-finale showpiece with his appearance at Caesars Superdome on Sunday, but seems to have left before the final whistle.
Before the game, Trump had backed the Chiefs to defeat the Philadelphia Eagles and secure a historic Super Bowl ‘three-peat’, yet a disastrous performance by Patrick Mahomes led to a nightmare evening for the two-time defending champions who were trailing 34-6 ahead of the fourth quarter. It’s unlikely that Kansas City’s poor performance is the sole reason behind Trump’s early departure, but it may well have influenced proceedings given that the 47th US president had supported Andy Reid’s team heading into the match.
Nonetheless, it appears he has left the venue ahead of the final period of play, as reported by Nikki Schwab of the Daily Mail on X (formerly Twitter). “Trump has left the Super Bowl, per pooler @svdate,” Schwab posted.
“In fairness, Dr. Biden also left the @Phillies World Series early, during that no-hitter game against the @astros.”
Ahead of the Super Bowl, Trump backed the Chiefs to come out on top because of Mahomes.
He said: “I guess you have to say that when a quarterback wins as much as he’s won – I have to go with Kansas CityTrump said.
“At the same time, Philadelphia is fantastic, it’s going to be just a great game.”
He added: “I’ve watched this great quarterback – who has, by the way, a phenomenal wife, okay, she’s a Trump fan. She’s a mega-fan, so I happen to love her.”
“She’s a great person,” he said of Brittany Mahomes. “I watched her being interviewed, I said it’s pretty good, but she’s great and he’s great.”
