Jadon Sancho has left many Manchester United supporters fuming with a cheeky one-word message to Marcus Rashford after his Aston Villa debut. Both English forwards have left Old Trafford on loan this season and share strained relationships with fans after their respective pre-departure exiles.
Sancho engaged in a public row with former United manager Erik ten Hag, essentially calling the Dutchman a liar on social media before refusing to apologise.
Ten Hag had revealed that he had snubbed the £73million flop from a matchday squad due to poor attitude and application in training.
Ruben Amorim faced similar issues with Rashford, who missed 13 consecutive matches before leaving for Villa Park before the winter transfer deadline.
The Red Devils boss claimed he was “thankful” to offload Rashford and admitted he struggled to extract his desired effort levels from the academy graduate in training and matches.
Villa have a £40m option to buy the 27-year-old in the summer, and he made his debut off the bench in Sunday’s FA Cup victory against Tottenham.
Sancho, who will join Chelsea in a £25m deal at the end of his loan spell, has angered United fans with his reaction on Instagram.
Among the comments on Rashford’s post thanking the Villa faithful for a warm welcome, Sancho wrote: “Freedom.”
Masses of United supporters have taken to X to share their disgust at the 24-year-old’s latest actions, considering both players are technically still employed by the club.
@UtdFaithfuls wrote: “This is so EMBARRASSING and UNPROFESSIONAL from Sancho. Genuinely one of the WORST footballers to ever play for us. Has the worst mentality and attitude I’ve ever seen.”
@markgoldbridge ranted: “United paid Sancho £300k a week. Supported him for four months while he had a break from football in the middle of the season. He’s been bang average at best for years. And he’s messaging Rashford about Freedom lol. Read the room. Most people actually work for a living.”
@unitedhan added: “Sancho can actually do one, can’t wait for him to be Chelsea’s problem full time.”
@TheEuropeanLad posted: “Jadon Sancho, another footballer you can add among the list of low-IQ players with zero professionalism and zero mentality. Just another overpaid spoiled brat who thinks he’s cooking with a comment like this towards a club he should be on his knees to for having been allowed to wear their shirt.”
Sancho started life at Chelsea by registering assists in three consecutive Premier League matches but has only managed another three in the 15 that followed.
Supporters of the Blues have grown increasingly disgruntled over the former Borussia Dortmund winger’s performances as results have fallen off in recent weeks.
United will likely be glad to see the back of Sancho and add the funds recouped from his and Rashford’s impending permanent sales to Amorim’s summer budget.
