Outlander’s Sam Heughan, adored for his role as Jamie Fraser in the Starz historical fantasy series, has a musical romantic comedy now streaming on Netflix.
The Scottish heartthrob, who recently returned for a seventh season of Outlander and wrapped up filming for the eighth and final season, has been seen in different roles, including Channel 4’s erotic thriller, The Couple Next Door.
In 2023, he starred alongside Hollywood A-lister Priyanka Chopra and iconic singer Céline Dion in the rom-com Love Again.
The film follows Chopra’s character Mira Ray, who, after losing her fiancé, sends romantic messages to his old mobile number, which is now owned by journalist Rob Burns (played by Heughan).
Falling for her, Burns seeks help from his next assignment subject, Céline Dion, to get to know Mira better.
Despite not being a huge hit with critics, Love Again has garnered a solid fan base over the past two years, set to expand now that it’s available on Netflix UK.
A movie buff confessed their obsession in a glowing Google review, stating: “I may have watched this movie 6 times in the last few days.
“This movie had me hooked from the moment I saw Priyanka’s face. There is something so lovable about her.
“[Heughan is] simply adorable in the role. I love how he really threw himself into it. I feel like he could excel in any role if he puts that much heart into a romantic film.
“If you’re a diehard romantic – you’ll adore this movie.”
Another admirer was keen to extol Chopra’s acting prowess: “Priyanka Chopra has always been a remarkable actress, but her performance in Love Again deserves special mention.
“This isn’t a groundbreaking film or a genre-defying masterpiece – it’s a classic romantic comedy with a simple script. Yet, Priyanka takes what could have been an ordinary role and elevates it with her natural charm and impeccable acting.”
One commenter lauded the film as a standout: “Probably the best rom com that I’ve watched in years.
“It’s funny and honest and all around moving. This movie made me cheer for the couple and fall in love with Celine Dion. I just finished watching the film and I can’t wait to watch it again.”
Meanwhile, a Letterboxd user’s five-star verdict celebrated the film’s familiar yet satisfying formula: “This is your typical cheesy romcom but I still really enjoyed this. It is heartwarming, emotional, and unique.
“You definitely root for them both. I liked the atmosphere/ vibe it had… Sam and Priyanka gave stellar performances. What a great story!”
