A TikTok sensation and wine guru has uncovered a splendid white wine that might just tempt you to ditch your usual Pinot Grigio for something new.
Originating predominantly from Spain’s Rías Baixas area, Albariño offers a crisp, zesty, and utterly revitalising taste profile.
In a recent video, the spectacled aficionado sampled both a wallet-friendly option and its pricier counterpart, enthusiastically announcing they were both “worth the wedge.”
Tom Gilbey compared Aldi’s Baron Amarillo Rías Baixas Albariño, retailing at £8.99, with the more luxurious Pazo de Senorans, Coleccion 2020 priced at £25.
On his hunt for aromas of “peaches, nectarines and a dollop of cream” he was thoroughly charmed by both selections.
As he presented his findings to his audience of 204,000 TikTok devotees, Tom took a hearty gulp of the Aldi offering.
Detailing his expectations, he said: “I’m looking for peaches, a little bit of white flour. Lovely pure fruit,” before joyously proclaiming the budget bottle to be a “good wine.”
Ideal for leisurely drinking sessions, an exceptional Albariño provides an unadulterated burst of fresh fruit flavors, whereas Pinot Grigio tends to be lighter, sharper and drier, characterised by its notes of green apple, pear, citrus, and white blossoms, reports the Mirror.
To nobody’s surprise, Tom also cherished the pricier Pazo de Senorans, labelling it as a “very complete, beautiful wine” which possesses the complexity and distinctiveness one would anticipate from a higher-priced vintage.
Thrilled with his Aldi discovery, the wine connoisseur sums up: “So for Albarino, if you want peaches, nectarines, white flowers, you can get it for well under 10 quid.”
