Steam Deck fans receive best possible news as game of the year contender gets verified | Gaming | Entertainment

If you’ve played the superb It Takes Two, then chances are you’re pretty excited about the release of developer Hazelight’s follow-up game Split Fiction.

While not a sequel to It Takes Two, Split Fiction shares some of the same DNA, specifically two-person co-operative action with lots of clever puzzles.

With the game’s release date just a few days away, publisher EA has made the announcement Steam Deck users have been hoping for.

In a new blog post, Hazelight and EA confirmed that Split Fiction will be Steam Deck Verified at launch.

This means it will run smoothly on Valve’s handheld device, and without users having to make any major changes.

Likewise, Cloud Save functionality means you can play on PC, close the game, and continue on Steam Deck.

Hazelight explains more: “Whether you’re at home or on the go, you will be able to transport yourself into the world of Mio and Zoe’s mind-boggling adventure as Split Fiction is Verified on Valve’s Steam Deck handheld device, giving you even more options to take advantage of Split Fiction supporting cross-play.

“You will also be able to take advantage of the Steam Cloud Save functionality, meaning you can play on your PC, save and close the game, then carry on where you left off on your Steam Deck and vice versa!

“We’re excited to see all the unexpected locations the community will end up playing Split Fiction at launch and beyond.”

In addition to Steam Deck functionality, Split Fiction will be Steam Native, meaning you don’t need to login with the EA App to start playing. This might be better news than Steam Deck verification.

The latest Split Fiction blog wasn’t just about Steam, as Hazelight shed light on various console and accessibility features.

Indeed, the game will run at 60 frames per second with dynamic 4k resolution on Xbox Series X and PS5, as well as 1080p/60fps on Xbox Series S.

Accessibility features such as simplified and custom inputs, not to mention skippable checkpoints and damage modifiers will also be available.

Finally, it was announced that pre-loading is available now for pre-order customers. This means you can start playing the moment the game goes live.

Split Fiction has a March 6 release date on PlayStation, Xbox and PC.
