Donald Trump cuts off Keir Starmer in blunt moment: ‘That’s enough!’ | Politics | News

Donald Trump cut off Keir Starmer as he told a reporter “that’s enough” in a heated press conference moment.

Sir Keir accused reporters of attempting to drive a wedge between him and the President by raising questions over Mr Trump’s pledge to make Canada the 51st state of the US.

“You mentioned Canada, you’re trying trying to find a divide between us that doesn’t exist. We’re the closest of nations and we had very good discussions today,” the UK leader said.

The President then cut the reporter off by saying “that’s enough” when they tried to ask a follow-up question.

Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has suggested Mr Trump floated the idea of taking over Canada and making it the “51st state” because he wants to access the country’s critical minerals.

Mr Trump has threatened Canada with a 25% tariff on all its exports to the US, with the exception of energy exports that would be taxed at a lower rate of 10%.

Sir Keir and Mr Trump were speaking during a press conference following a meeting in the Oval Office.

It comes as the US and UK will begin work on a new economic deal, Sir Keir has said.

Speaking of the two countries’ shared hopes for artificial intelligence, the Prime Minister said: “Instead of over-regulating these new technologies, we’re seizing the opportunities that they offer.”

He added: “We’ve decided today to go further to begin work on a new economic deal with advanced technology at its core.

“Look, our two nations together shaped the great technological innovations of the last century. We have a chance now to do the same for the 21st century.

“I mean, artificial intelligence could cure cancer. That could be a moonshot for our age, and that’s how we’ll keep delivering for our people.”

CORRECTION 27/02: A previous version of this story incorrectly reported that the President had cut off Keir Starmer. In fact, he was cutting off a reporter who asked the question. We apologise for any inaccuracy and are happy to correct the record.
