Urgent recall issued for Tesco, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s product over health risk | UK | News

Shoppers at Tesco, Morrisons, and Sainsbury’s have been warned not to consume a popular sandwich staple after it was found to contain an undeclared allergen. Baxters Sliced Gherkins Crunchy and Sweet is being urgently recalled due to the presence of mustard, which is not listed on the label.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued a statement alerting customers to the risk, warning that the gherkins could pose a serious health threat to anyone with a mustard allergy or intolerance. In severe cases, allergic reactions can lead to anaphylaxis, a potentially life-threatening condition.

The recall affects specific batches of Baxters Sliced Gherkins Crunchy and Sweet (540g), all with a best before date of June 2026. The affected batch codes are:

  • 2400059
  • 2400060
  • 2400061
  • 2400062
  • 2400063

If you have purchased this product, the FSA advises that you do not eat it. Instead, dispose of it immediately or return it to the store where it was bought. Customers can also contact Baxters’ customer care team at 0800 389 8389 or via email at CCUK@baxters.com to arrange a replacement.

A Baxters Food Group spokesperson said: “The health and safety of our consumers is our highest priority, and we have worked with the relevant authorities to implement a full recall of the affected batches of Baxters Sliced Gherkins Crunchy & Sweet 540g.

“We wish to apologise for any inconvenience caused and advise any consumers who have purchased this product to dispose of it and contact our customer service helpline for a replacement.”

Supermarkets including Tesco, Morrisons, and Sainsbury’s have removed the affected batches from shelves and have issued point-of-sale recall notices in their stores.
