Clever Windows 11 upgrade will finally fix a big issue with your laptop

Most laptop users will know the nightmare of the battery light flashing red. Despite portable PCs getting ever more efficient, there are still those times when things run low and if there’s nowhere to refill or you don’t have your charger it can be very stressful. Luckily, help could be on its way with the team at tech giant Lenovo unveiling a new device that can be boosted by the sun.

The Windows 11-powered Yoga Solar PC Concept was shown off in Barcelona at Mobile World Congress (MWC) and, as the name suggests, comes packed with battery-boosting solar panels.

This technology means that if you leave the device in the sunshine for 20 minutes, the battery will get enough juice to keep the screen glowing bright for over an hour.

Lenovo says this conversion rate has been achieved by leveraging ‘Back Contact Cell’ technology, which moves mounting brackets and gridlines to the back of the solar cells, maximizing the active absorption.

A Dynamic Solar Tracking system also constantly measures the solar panel’s current and voltage, working with the Solar-First Energy system to automatically adjust the charger’s settings to prioritise sending the harvested energy to the system, helping to ensure maximum energy-savings and system stability regardless of light intensity.

Even in low-light conditions, the panel can still generate power, sustaining battery charge when the PC is idle.

What makes this more impressive is that Lenovo has managed to do this whilst keeping the device both lightweight and thin enough to pop in your rucksack.

“The Yoga Solar PC proof of concept is designed for those who turn any space—indoors or outdoors—into a productive workspace,” Lenovo said.

“The device aims to bridge the gap between functionality and environmental awareness and represents Lenovo’s vision of achieving a future where renewable energy and innovation are intrinsically intertwined.”
