You’re painting home wrong – DIY fan uses £2.99 item

A woman has been applauded for her easy hack to save hours on painting your home – by using a tanning mitt.

If you are bored of looking at the same colours in your home, or have recently moved, it might be time for a change up and some DIY. While you might go all out and change your furniture or add new accessories like frames and vases to your home for a new look, a simple lick of paint can transform a room.

One woman, name Vee, wanting to refresh her landing area to offer a more contemporary look. The woman, who lives in Kettering, Northamptonshire, has been shareing her DIY projects and easy upgrades online.

She completley transformed the space, which once had a blue wall and white banister. Now, the walls are white with several black and white picture frames leading down the wall of the stairs. She has also added panelling, a new plant and mirror, and painted the stair rails and banister black, offering a more luxurious feel to her home.

“This stairs and landing renovation was a labour of love and I think it is one of my favourite renovation project to date,” Vee shared on her Instagram page @athomewith_vee.

One trick helped her perfect the painting job on the banister. Vee said the trick is “the ultimate DIY paint hack for painting your stairs banisters and handrails. It give you a smooth and beautiful finish”.

She painted the banister with one coat of black paint, then got to work with a mitt typically used for fake tan. By wearing a tanning mitt on your hand, it helps easily spread the product around your body, creating a smooth look – and it works the same for paint. Vee was able to get in every nook and cranny on her bannister to make sure it was covered.

Vee added: “I used a paint brush for the first coat (gosh it was a painful experience lol). I then used a tanning mitt to apply two more coats of paint and it went on amazing. Have you tried this paint hack before?”

What’s more, the DIY trick is super cheap. Tanning mitts are priced at £2.99 at Boots, or £3.99 at Superdrug.

People can’t believe the woman’s genius idea. One individual said: “You’ve just made my tedious upcoming task of doing this on four floors much easier.”

Another who has tried and tested the trick, said: “We did this with ours and it really made it so much easier, smoother and faster. Great hack.” One other commented: “Oh. My. God…. Why have I never thought to do this?! Good example of working smarter not harder.”

One other delighted individual added: “You likely just saved me hours of painstaking work planned in the next two months. Thank God.” Meanwhile, another exclaimed: “Just like self tanning.”

And a further commenter said: “Omg this comes at the right moment, I need to do my banister! So happy this has proven worth!”
