Dirty trainers will be ‘sparkling white’ when cleaned with 2 products

There’s nothing more satisfying than treating yourself to a pair of fresh white trainers. They go with everything and they’re perfect for spring and summer – but there’s one big problem.

Sadly, they never stay white for very long. No matter how careful you are, one rainy or muddy day can spell disaster for your fresh white shoes. Thankfully, it’s very simple to restore them to their former glory, and all you need is two staple household products.

Lifestyle influencer Lucy Kalice shared her impressive shoe transformation on TikTok, describing how she’d managed to get them so dirty on a night out. However, all you need to make them look like new again is a couple of products you’ve probably already got in your cupboard.

She said she was ‘tempted’ to throw them away because they were so ‘dirty and smelly’ – but thankfully managed to sort them out fast.

First, you’ll want to take the laces out, and soak the shoes in water. The part that Lucy reckons made ‘all the difference’ was pre-treating with a few scoops of the Pink Stuff Oxi Powder, which you can buy for just £3 from Dunelm.

Put a few scoops in a bowl and add a little water to make a paste, then use a scrubber or toothbrush to work it into the really stubborn stains.

Then, give them a rinse, fill up your sink or bowl again and give them a second soak with the oxi powder – this time adding a few scoops of bicarbonate of soda in too.

Lucy then left them to soak for about three hours – but you can do this overnight too, just to save time. When the time was up, they went into the washing machine with some towels so the shoes didn’t rub together so much.

Don’t forget to put the laces in too, as well as some detergent as normal. After a 40C wash, Lucy took a pair of pristine looking trainers out the machine.

Showing them off in the video, she said: “Oh my god, do these not look brand new?

“Even I’m impressed with how they turned out.”
