After a hearty roast dinner, there is nothing worse than having to tackle dirty pots and pans. These cumbersome items often require hours of soaking, scrubbing and rinsing to remove stubborn grease, grime and food stains. However, cleaning star Lynsey Crombie, also known as lynsey_queenofclean on Instagram, has shared a simple 15-minute hack that does not involve scrubbing.
Lynsey, who has 377,000 followers on the social media platform, suggested using soda crystals to remove grease and grime from pots and pans. She said the “no-scrub hack” is one of her favourite cleaning tips, and it simply involves sprinkling soda crystals over greasy pots and pans and adding water.
Lynsey then lets them soak for 15 minutes before rinsing the pots and pans with clean water, resulting in “gleaming dishes”.
She said: “The crystals break down the grease and grime, making it easy and safe to pour down the sink.”
She added: “Soda crystals are highly alkaline, which makes them effective at breaking down organic compounds like grease and oils. They are also non-toxic and biodegradable.”
Soda crystals can be bought online and from most local supermarkets. Sainsbury’s, Asda, and Ocado sell them for £2.
Lynsey’s post received many positive comments from fans who applauded the method.
One user said: “Love soda crystals for anything greasy.”
Another wrote: “I didn’t know this good tip. I use the soda crystals for other things you have talked about.”
A third commented on the post: “This is handy to know. Thank you.”
Alternatively, you could clean greasy pots and pans with a combination of baking soda and vinegar or a paste made of baking soda, water, and washing-up liquid.
