England squad to face Latvia confirmed as Thomas Tuchel picks three men to exclude | Football | Sport

England trio Tino Livramento, Aaron Ramsdale and Anthony Gordon will miss out when the Three Lions take on Latvia in their second World Cup qualifying match this evening. Thomas Tuchel has named a 23-man squad for his second game in charge, with Morgan Gibbs-White and Jarrel Quansah both included after missing the victory over Albania on Friday night.

England made a solid start to life under Tuchel as they dispatched Albania 2-0 at Wembley. Myles Lewis-Skelly became the youngest player in history to score on his England debut when he opened the scoring midway through the first half before Harry Kane killed the game off 13 minutes before full-time. And the result left Tuchel’s side at he top of the Group K table after the first round of qualifiers.

Livramento and Ramsdale will miss out tonight after being left out of the squad by Tuchel. Gordon, meanwhile, has been forced to return to Newcastle after picking up an injury during his country’s victory over Albania.

Explaining his squad selection ahead of tonight’s match, Tuchel said: “We have to get the process right to find the best group.

“If that means we leave very good and talented players out of the squad, this can happen. In the next 16 months it is important we find the right team and not the most talented 26 players.

“We need to get the team right. We need to get the team spirit right because it’s one thing to play qualifiers, it’s another thing to play tournament football.”

Gordon came on for the last 16 minutes in the place of Marcus Rashford on Friday night as the former Everton winger was handed his 10th cap.

But after the match, Tuchel explained: “He looks injured, he looks injured. He had, first of all I thought it’s his stomach but it’s his hip and it does not look good. Yeah, it’s a bit worrying.”

And the FA confirmed in a statement on Sunday: “Anthony Gordon has withdrawn from Three Lions camp having sustained an injury during Friday night’s 2-0 win over Albania. The forward has returned to Newcastle United for further assessment.”

England are among the early favourites to win the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted by co-hosted the USA, Canada and Mexico.

But they must first progress through a qualifying group containing Albania, Latvia, Serbia and Andorra.

The World Cup will get underway on Thursday, June 11 2026, with the final scheduled to take place at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday, July 19.
