Emergency services are deailing with multiple crashes on Britain’s motorway network this morning, with motorists facing severe delays up and down the country.

Two multi-vehicle crashes – one on the M1 in Bedfordshire, and another on the M5 in Gloucestershire – have caused traffic and travel chaos on Friday, with huge waits of up to an hour reported by drivers.

National Highways confirmed that the M1 was shut between junction 11, for Luton, and junction 11a, for Houghton Regis and Dunstable, while over on the M5, traffic has been brought to a standstill near junction 8 (for the M50).
