Jeremy Clarkson’s high-end beer brand is amid a product recall as two of its offerings have been pulled from shelves. The Cotswold Brewing Company Limited, where Clarkson serves as a director, initiated the recall amidst concerns about undeclared wheat, a common allergen.

The collaboration between Clarkson and the family-run brewery began in 2021 when they launched the Hawkstone premium beer line, featuring barley from his own Diddly Squat farm. Gracing more than 500 UK pubs, the beers have seen widespread distribution. Wheat poses a significant health risk for individuals with gluten allergies or intolerances.

An allergy alert has been issued by the Food Standards Agency regarding these products.

It is part of standard procedure when food items present allergy risks to consumers due to labelling errors.

The products affected are Hawkstone Black and Hawkstone Spa Lager, which contain gluten that is not mentioned on their labels.

Consumers who have purchased either of these products and have gluten-related health concerns are advised not to consume them.

Both products contain wheat (gluten), which is not declared on their labels.

A statement from the FSA read: “This product contains wheat (gluten), making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten, or with coeliac disease.”

Gluten allergies and coeliac disease can cause serious health complications when affected individuals consume wheat products.

Immediate action has been taken to remove these products from circulation.

No other Cotswold Brewing Company products are affected by this issue.

The Cotswold Brewing Company Limited has contacted relevant allergy support organisations to inform their members about the recall.

Point-of-sale notices have also been issued to customers explaining why the products are being recalled and what actions to take.
